Human cases of Swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection have been identified in the United States with one confirmed case at the present time in Ohio.  With guidance from ODH and the CDC health departments in Trumbull County are working together to help prevent the spread of swine influenza virus infection in our community.

The signs and symptoms are similar to symptoms of regular human flu.  These include:

·         Fever – 100 degrees (plus)

·         Cough

·         Sore Throat

·         Body Aches

·         Headaches

·         Chills

·         Running Nose

·         Fatigue

There is no vaccine available right now to protect against swine flu.  There are everyday actions that can help to prevent the spread of germs that cause influenza.  Take these steps to protect you and your family’s health.

·         Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.   Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

·         Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.

Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

·         Try to avoid close contact with people.

·         If you are sick, it is recommended that you stay home from work or school.

·         Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

·         Limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
